| To me, to Falling Whistles, to the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo... In November 2011 the Congolese are having an election. If this election turns out to be free and fair, as it should be, the people of the Congo will finally be able to use their voices, to stand up for their country and to begin to regain the rights that have been brutally stripped away from them. The least we can do is join the global alliance to ensure that these elections are, in fact, democratic. It's simple: click on this link, watch the video, and sign the petition to President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton, asking them to appoint an Envoy to the Great Lakes region. And, if you can, buy a whistle, or two, or a hundred! :)

| it's a sad sad world. i have come into the habit of writing papers in the middle of the night because i feel too burnt out during the day. this is so irritating because i'd like to sleep at some point. but i'm a big fat lazy bum in the daytime hours. fuck. me.

| hello. today i watched the boy in the striped pyjamas. you must watch it. it is definitely the most touching holocaust-era movie i've seen. a lot of people have a problem with it (as well as with the book on which it is based) because they feel it "sanitizes" the whole horrible ordeal. i, however, feel that the purpose was not to depict exactly (in documentary fashion) what was going on at the time. the point was to tell a story that would move us. this movie made me think of the holocaust in deeper ways than any other movie i've seen. on a lighter note, yesterday i had a mini ryan gosling marathon. first, i finished watching the slaughter rule which was pretty good. not to mention twisted. ry-ry was so cute. :D then, i watched lars and the real girl, which i positively fell in love with. and lastly, i watched half nelson, which was also pretty good. if i had to rate them (1=favorite, 3=least favorite), i'd do so as follows: 1-lars and the real girl, 2-half nelson, 3-the slaughter rule. i have a bunch of other movies lined up in my dvr queue to watch this winter break. not to mention books to read. i'm working on midnight's children by salman rushdie right now. (i was reading it last year, but was slow with it because i was a moron. now i am much less moronic and much more immersed in it.) also, i have to write A LOT. i promised myself i would. i don't wanna get lazy. umm that's pretty much it. ta.
